Wellness and fitness sessions at home for adult and geriatric clients who are recovering from illness or injury, or to prevent decline in health and well-being that may lead to admission to the hospital or skilled nursing center.
Welcome to Monocacy Health and Wellness, serving clients in their homes in Frederick County and Montgomery County. Costs of medical care are steadily rising, making it increasingly difficult to manage health and medical conditions that are often encountered in the elderly population. My mission is to help clients reach their best level of fitness and function, reaching goals with an exercise program designed to improve health and well-being.
By providing a customized exercise program that takes place at home, clients have the benefits of one-on-one instruction without the awkward or intimidating environment that some experience in a large gym.
A personal trainer who specializes exercise programs for older adults with health concerns can help clients who were recently discharged from the hospital, rehabilitation center, or skilled nursing. By enabling clients to maintain what they achieved in therapy or continue with the progress they made while recovering, many people are able to stay in their homes or gain the mobility needed to function safely in the community. Working with a personal trainer can also help prevent many problems associated with the aging process, thus helping to reduce this risk of hospital admissions or the need for staying in a long term care setting.
Monocacy Health and Wellness specializes in training clients with age-related concerns including reduced muscle mass, limited range of motion, or loss of bone density, impaired balance, diminished posture, and health issues such as cardio-respiratory conditions, diabetes, or obesity. For those with health risks, you may need a referral from your physician to participate with a fitness program.
Julie Fernandes, Health and Fitness Trainer
Julie has been helping adult and geriatric clients get well for 30 years. Her background includes working in rehabilitation, marketing, and business administration. She began her experience in Occupational Therapy, which gave her an excellent understanding of what clients need in order to reach personal, functional, and exercise goals while while being mindful of each person’s diagnoses and medical history. Her interest in meeting clients’ needs combined with her enthusiasm and awareness of the psychological component of wellness led her to complete a bachelor degree in psychology at the University of Central Florida. Her experiences both as a patient and as a practitioner motivated her to complete a healthcare MBA from Florida International University so that she could broaden her approach to meeting clients’ needs. Julie is a Certified as a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt which gives her a unique perspective when interacting with clients, one that prioritizes meeting the needs of clients and finding long-lasting solutions to problems that are encountered during the journey towards wellness and function. Using time efficiently, meeting the needs of the customers where they are at, and continuously looking for ways to improve are integrated in her approach in helping others succeed. As healthcare evolves, it is becoming more important for people to take responsibility to manage their health and wellness, which includes working to prevent medical problems as well as facilitating recovery when medical situations occur. Julie continues to advocate for clients, helping them improve their quality of life through a positive approach to wellness. When not at work Julie enjoys traveling, running, and spending time with family — including the beloved member of the pack - Dash, a loyal 4-legged friend.
